NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER AUGUST 20-24
WOW! What a great group of students and parents! Thank you so much for getting all of the forms filled out and returned so quickly. That makes my job so much easier.
PARENT LETTERS- Many thanks to all of the parents who have sent me a letter about your child. If you haven’t had a chance to do this yet, please send one as soon as possible. It is very helpful to have some insight into what your child is like from the parents’ perspective
VOLUNTEERS- Are we lucky or what? We have LOTS of volunteers for the various positions. Thanks so much for your willingness to help out in the classroom this year. It is truly appreciated. One of our room mothers, Mrs. Murphy, typed up a class directory and a calendar for classroom helpers and mystery readers. If you would like to be added, please give Kelli Murphy a call. The “lead” parents for Art and Earth Parents will contact the other people on the list as people are needed.
COMMUNICATION- Good news and bad news. Good news…I’m getting a new computer in my classroom to replace the “dinosaur”, and the newer computer that is broken, MIGHT get repaired. Bad news…this will take about six weeks. Because of this, I can’t update my blog or get the parent e-mail list together yet. I will do so as soon as possible. I will send home a “hard copy” of the newsletter every Monday to give you an idea of what we’re going to be doing for the week. Also, check the agenda for homework assignments every night and please sign in the bottom green section each day. / I will make phone calls and write notes in the agenda to let you know how your child is doing. I will also periodically send home stapled stacks of papers that will need to be signed and corrected. Please sign beside the grade on each page. If you see a corrected symbol ( ) on the paper, that means we have had the opportunity to go over the work together again. If not, the missed items need to be corrected./ If you have a question for me, you can e-mail me at vicki.turner@cobbk12.org or you can write a note in your child’s agenda. Please be aware that Cobb County filters our e-mail and many times I don’t receive them in a timely manner if they are “filtered”. If I don’t respond within 24 hours, I probably didn’t get your e-mail.
SCHEDULE- We have students who will be going to Target on Friday, so we will be on a Friday-Thursday rotation. I will introduce the spelling words for the week on Friday, and the tests will be on Thursday. Our X-tra Activity will also be on Thursday. Everyone starts with a clean slate every Friday. Remember, students may have 2 X’s per week. If they receive more than 2 X’s, they will have to miss X-tra Activity.
INDEPENDENT READING- Students are required to read a minimum of 15 minutes 4 out of 7 nights a week. These minutes need to be recorded on the reading log. It is not o.k. to read 60 minutes one day a week. We are trying to get the students to be life long readers and to develop the habit of reading on a nightly basis. Completed reading logs are due every Monday. Remember, all third grade students must pass the reading portion of the CRCT in order to advance to fourth grade. What we do at school is not enough. Students MUST log independent minutes to be successful This is one of the best way for parents to help their students. Please set aside 15 minutes every night for your child to read.
PICTURE DAY- Students will have pictures taken tomorrow at ~9:00. Order forms were sent home on Friday. If you would like to order pictures, please send that form in tomorrow with payment.
MILEAGE CLUB- Third grade students can participate in Mileage Club every Wednesday from 7:15-7:40. Students need to check in with me before they go walk.
SCHOOL STORE – There will NOT be a school store this year. If your child needs something, a form needs to be filled out and payment sent in and someone from P.T.A. will fill the order and bring it to your child. Remember, the art teacher would like for every student to purchase a sketch pad , and the third grade teachers would like for each student to order a vocabulary book. If you have not had a chance to purchase these yet, please get a form and order them.
CLASSROOM SUPPLIES- We need Lysol wipes, individually wrapped candy, and liquid hand soap
