CLASSROOM NEEDS- Many thanks to all of the parents who have sent in candy, tissues, handsoap, and Lysol wipes. We are fine on all of those for now. I’ll let you know when we are running low.
MEDIA CENTER ORIENTATION- We will have our orientation today, so students will be able to check out library books now. All students should have a chapter book to read at all times.
ACCELERATED READER- Students will not have a set AR goal for the first nine week period. I do expect the students to read AR books and to take tests though. Students should read books that are 3.0 or higher. We will set a definite goal for the second nine week period.
TARGET OPEN HOUSE- There will be an Open House for parents with students in the gifted program on Tuesday from 6:30-7:30.
SCOUT NIGHT- If your child is interested in joining scouts, please attend the meeting on Thursday night from 6:30-8:00.
LABOR DAY- We will not have school next Monday, Sept.3rd.
OPEN HOUSE- We will be having Open House for K,2, and 5 on Tuesday, Sept. 4th. Open House for 1,3, and 4 will be on Thursday, Sept. 6th.
THANKS- We really appreciate all of our parent helpers who come in each week! Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Quirk, Mrs. Hendricks, Mrs. Hall, Mrs. Murphy, Mrs. Vollbracht, and Mrs. O’Hara.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- Core Words: below, saw, something, thought, both Bonus Words: physical map, political map, resource map, intermediate directions, cardinal directions/ Please help your child review and study these words. The longer bonus words need to be learned by syllables. / Cloze Review on Thursday / Work on long and short vowel sounds
READING- Read “Sleeping and Dreaming” out of Wings book / Comprehension quiz on Friday /DRA’s continue / Steck Vaughn one-on-one reading with parents and RISE student/Read chapter book and log minutes / Take AR tests/ Reading logs should be filled out and turned in every Monday. Students must read at least 15 minutes, 4 out of 7 nights. Remember that’s the minimum. They should be reading MUCH more!
ENGLISH- Morning work packet /Continue working on the four types of sentences:declarative, statement, telling / interrogative, asking, question/ exclamatory, exclamation/ imperative, command / Test on Tuesday / Prefixes and suffixes / Nouns
SOCIAL STUDIES- Introduce continents and oceans / Read Chester the Worldly Pig/
Read and discuss My Place in Space/ Test over place in space on Thursday
MATH- Continue working on place value and number sense/ Quiz over all of the material we’ve covered so far on Wednesday/ To help your child review, have him/her bring home his/her math book and review pages 4-15/ Timed test every Wednesday-100 problems in 7 minutes.
