NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER SEPT. 4-7

LABOR DAY- I hope you enjoyed your day off!

OPEN HOUSE- Our Open House will be this Thursday, Sept. 6th. It will start at 6:30 in the gym. After a brief meeting, parents will come to the classroom. I look forward to seeing everyone Thursday nightJ

PARENT HELPERS- Many thanks to all of the parents who helped in the classroom this past week: Mrs. Gilreath, Mrs. Loudermilk, Mrs. Hall, Mrs.Vollbracht, and Mr. Finkelstein. We truly appreciate your help!

MY PLACE IN SPACE- All of the students did a GREAT job reciting their place in space. Thanks for working so hard and being prepared.

CONTINENTS AND OCEANS- Our big challenge for this week will be to learn the location and spelling of all of the 7 continents and 4 oceans. The written test will be on Thursday.

ACCELERATED READER- Please remind and encourage your child to read AR books and to take AR tests. We do not have a set goal for the first nine weeks, but I do expect the students to read and to take tests.

X-TRA ACTIVITY and X’S IN THE AGENDA- We will discuss our discipline plan on Thursday night. Just a few reminders in case you can’t come Thursday night: Students are allowed to have 2 X’s every week. We’re human. We all make mistakesJ The week runs from Friday- Thursday . Students start with a clean slate every Friday. If a student receives an X for missing or incomplete work, that work must be completed and turned in the next day. The same goes for signed papers.

READING- Read and discuss “Appelemando’s Dreams”/ Comprehension quiz on Friday/ Read at least 15 minutes 4 out of 7 nights- record minutes on reading log/ One-on-one reading with parent helpers

MATH- Comparing and ordering numbers /Rounding / Quiz on Wednesday over material covered so far / Timed test on Wednesday/ Study multiplication facts

SOCIAL STUDIES- Continents and oceans-test on Thursday / Landforms – start saving a pizza box for an upcoming project
