NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER DEC. 3-7

ABSENT- I was at a meeting today. Mrs. Batchelder was the sub.

SOLDIER PEN-PAL- Please refer to the letter that was sent home on Friday about buying gifts for our soldier pen-pal, Patrick Faughnan. You may send in the wrapped presents at any time. Please include a card with your present.

ACCELERATED READER- Please encourage your child to continue to read. Remember, everyone needs 10 points by December 21st.

HOLIDAY PARTY- The official party will be on Friday, December 21st from 9:30-10:30. We will have a special snack starting about 9:15. All parents are welcome

JESSICA’S 18TH BIRTHDAY- Our wonderful Harrison RISE student, Jessica Kramer, turns 18 today. I hope the students made birthday cards for her.

FISH TESTS- The Real Deal will be given tomorrow. The students have an extra day to study this time.

GEOMETRY QUILT - Students will be given information on Tuesday about an upcoming math project.

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD- Congratulations to the winners of the Bridge Building competition. The Mad Mustangs made up of Colette Visage, Ellie Loudermilk, and Erin O’Reilly made a suspension bridge that measured 35 inches long.

THANK YOU- Many thanks to all of the parent helpers who come in each week and help out in the classroom. We truly appreciate your help. Dresden’s mom did an informative art/ music lesson with the students. Michael’s mom was our mystery reader. I really liked the book that explained how the tiger got its stripes

SUBJECT MATTER

SPELLING- Core Words- paper, hard, near, sentence, better Bonus Words- soil, humus, topsoil, bedrock, clay, loam, minerals, nutrients, through, threw / Cloze Review on Thursday / Adding suffixes / ABC order

ENGLISH- The students did GREAT on the pronoun test. This week we will be working on dictionary skills and using a thesaurus.

READING / WRITING- Reading and writing for information / Read “Wolves” out of the Diamond Cove book / Start learning how to take notes and make outlines for nonfiction material / Comprehension quiz over “Wolves” on Friday- Remember, you have to read nonfiction differently than fiction…especially when you’re going to have a comprehension test over the material. The infomation would need to be read and studied. / Read AR books

MATH- Study geometry vocabulary out of the math composition book / Start working on quilt project / Study for multiplication fish tests / Work on division- various strategies for solving a division problem / Overall quiz on multiplication, division, and properties on Friday. Look at the review sheet that we did in class to help prepare for the test.

SCIENCE- Mrs. Huebener thought the students did a wonderful job on the soil project. They went way above and beyond her expectations There will be another project this week about soil conservation. Details will come from Mrs. Huebener.
