NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER DEC. 10-14

VULCAN ROCK QUARRY- We will be going on an OUTDOOR fieldtrip tomorrow to the Vulcan Rock Quarry. Some students said they wanted a lunch from school and others wanted to bring a sack lunch from home. I will have the students put a note in their agendas according to what they told me.

SCHEDULE CHANGE- After the holidays, we will start having Target on Thursdays inside of Fridays. Therefore, we will have our Cloze Review and our Xtra Activity on Friday from now on.

CONGRATULATIONS- Wow! We had five students who completed the Multiplication Fish Tests first. Congratulations to Morgan Murphy, Heather Hall, Coleen Visage, Dresden Dilts, and Harrison Kemp. Way to go! What an accomplishment! They will be chauffeured by Mrs. Turner to a special dinner.

GEOMETRY QUILT- Information was sent home last week about the Geometry Quilt Project. It is due on Wednesday, December 19th. By this point, students should have bought the poster board and marked off the 25 boxes. They should be doing a few boxes each night. The quilts should be neat and colorful. The purpose of this project is for students to notice all of the geometric shapes that surround them every day.

ACCELERATED READER- Remember, all students need 10 AR points by next Friday, December 21st. I’m very proud of the students who have already met their goals and who continue to read and accumulate points. As of today, your child has ______AR points.

HOLIDAY PARTY- Our party will be held on Friday, December 21st from 9:30-10:30. A special holiday snack will be served at ~9:00. Everyone is welcome

HOLIDAY CRAFTS- Three parents have volunteered to make crafts with the students the last week of school. We still have one day open if anyone else is interested.

PRESENTS FOR PATRICK- Please remember our very special, soldier pen-pal, Patrick Faughnan. During this time of year, as we go about our daily lives, he is over in Iraq protecting our freedom. Presents and cards can be sent in at any time. We will package them up and get them mailed to him as soon as possible.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION- There is a contest from today until Friday to see which class can collect the most box tops. Please put them in a baggy and label them with your name and my name. The winning student will receive a $20 gift card to Honey Baked Ham.

HAT DAY- Thursday, December 13th. Bring a dollar to support Relay for Life.

SUBJECT MATTER

SPELLING- Core Words- best, across, during, today, however Bonus Words- compost, decay, tilling, conservation, strip cropping, contour plowing / Cloze Review on Friday / Ho! Ho! Ho! Three in a Row- We are trying something new for Spelling homework this week. Students may pick which way they would like to go on the tic-tac-toe board…they MUST go through the middle.(Dear Parent Worksheet) They need to have an assignment ready to turn in on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Don’t lose the Ho! Ho! Ho! Sheet. We will be using it again next week with different words. Have fun!!!

READING- Silver Packages by Cynthia Rylant / Summarizing, making predictions, and making connections / Read AR books / Time For Kids

ENGLISH- The students did very well on the midyear English test. They have learned a great deal of information already this year! This week we will be applying knowledge of subjects and predicates / Differences between contractions and possessives / How to use “I” and “me” correctly / Informational writing / Field trip response

MATH- Pretest over Unit 3 / Review multiplication, division, and geometry / Homework- study for fish tests and work on geometry quilt

SCIENCE- Soil unit continues / Test on Wednesday
