NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER AUG. 25-29

NO SCHOOL- Remember, we will not have school next Monday, Sept. 1st due to the Labor Day holiday.

PICTURE DAY- Pictures will be taken at 8:15 tomorrow morning

ACCELERATED READER- All students need to have 10 AR points by the end of the nine weeks. We are starting week three. As of today, your child has _____out of 10 points.

READING LOG- Remember, completed reading logs are due every Monday. Students must read at least 4 out of 7 nights…more would be better!

CLASS T-SHIRTS- This is the first time third grade has ordered class shirts. Our class is royal blue. If you would like a shirt, and you haven’t ordered it yet, please do so by Friday. A yellow form was sent home last Friday with information about the shirts, or you can download a form from the P.T.S.A. website.

PERFORMING ARTS- The permission forms for Performing Arts are coming home today. Please check the “Keep At Home” pocket for this information.

OPEN HOUSE- Many thanks to all of the parents who made it to Open House. I hope you found it informative.

SIGNED PAPERS- A stack of graded, stapled papers will be coming home today. Please sign EVERY sheet with a grade on it. Students should correct any questions that are wrong (if they haven’t been corrected already). They should also write any misspelled word FIVE TIMES. This will be the procedure every time we send home papers.

SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- Core Words: below, saw, something, thought, both Bonus Words: between, said, could, never, frighten, total, directions, cardinal, intermediate, compass rose, political map, physical map / Long i and long o sounds / Cloze Review on Friday

READING- We will be reading a story called “Isla”. Many of the activities in Language Arts will be centered around the story. We will have a comprehension quiz on Thursday or Friday. / All students should have a chapter book to read at all times. / Dress in tropical attire on Friday

ENGLISH- Review the four types of sentences

WRITING- Read Edward and the Pirates and learn how to write a Response to Literature.

MATH- Continue working on place value and comparing and ordering numbers. / We will have quite a few assessments this week over the material we’ve covered. / Timed test on Wednesday…we have discussed which test everyone should take on Wednesday…PRACTICE and be ready!

SOCIAL STUDIES- We will be discussing types of maps, compass rose, and cardinal and intermediate directions
