NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER SEPT. 29-OCT.3

TESTING- We are finished with testing! Thanks so much for all of the delicious snacks and fun treats!

SCHEDULE- We are back to our normal schedule this week. (Specials from 10:30-11:15 and lunch from 12:03-12:33)

SPIRIT DAY- Our class won the award for most participation on Spirit Day! Yeah!

REFLECTIONS- We have many talented students in our class. Did you enter one of the Reflections categories? Remember to turn in your Reflections entries by Wednesday, October 1st.

ACCELERATED READER- As of today, you have _____out of 10 points. The nine weeks ends next Friday. Make sure you have a plan for getting 10 points by then. I want everyone to be able to come to the “P” Party at the end of the year!!!

READ FOR THE RECORD- Plan to bring the family to school on Thursday morning, Oct 2 starting at 7:30 and help us break the Guiness Book of World Records! Mr. Ehrhardt will be reading a book to all of us at the same time. Check the P.T.S.A. website for more details.

HARRISON BAND EXCELS! We had a great trip to Ohio. The Harrison Marching Band swept the awards in ALL categories…Best Visual, Best Music, Best Overall…Region Champs! I am a very proud mom

HEISMAN TROPHY NIGHT- Get your picture made with the REAL Heisman trophy. Be at Allatoona High School stadium this Friday between 5:30 and 7:00.

WRITING- We are learning how to use a rubric to evaluate our writing. We are currently working on Response to Literature. We will do a Response to Literature “Post” writing this week.

READING- Each day, we will read a different form of traditional literature and answer comprehension questions / One on one help with Inferencing and Reading For Facts

ENGLISH- Review subjects and predicates / Cumulative quiz over the 4 types of sentences and subjects and predicates

MATH- Quiz over addition, subtraction, and rounding / Review subtraction with regrouping / Move on to telling time

SCIENCE- Continue studying rocks and minerals

NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER SEPT. 22-26

TESTING- We will be taking the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) every morning this week. We took the reading section today. Tomorrow will be Language Arts, Wednesday will cover Math, Thursday will be Science and Social Studies, and Friday will be Maps, Diagrams, and Reference Materials. Remember to get to bed early and eat a nutritious breakfast. Please check the snack schedule to see when you are supposed to send in your item. Many thanks to the people who got us off to a great start today! The special snacks give us something to look forward to after testing each day

EARTH LESSON- Mrs. Howard and Mrs. McElhannon did an earth lesson with the children on the different types of soil. We have planted bean seeds. I wonder which type of soil will produce the best plant?

MEDIA CENTER- We will be going to the Media Center tomorrow to check out new books. Please have your library books at school tomorrow.

ACCELERATED READER- As of today, you have _______out of 10 points. Keep up the great reading! Remember, you should be reading books that are at least 3.0 or higher.

7 MINUTE TIMED TESTS- We will continue taking the timed test every Wednesday. I am impressed with the progress the students are making. Keep studying!

MULTIPLICATION FACTS- One of our most important standards this year is learning the multiplication facts. Please start memorizing your facts!

HOMEWORK- Stapled papers will be coming home tonight. Parents should sign each page. Students should correct any items they missed and write any words that were misspelled, five times each. All misspelled words should also be written in the spelling composition book. We will have minimal homework this week due to testing.

CALLING ALL FOOTBALL PLAYERS AND CHEERLEADERS- The Allatoona Band is sponsoring a Heisman Trophy Night on Friday, October 3rd starting at 5:30. Anyone can get his/her picture made with the actual Heisman trophy! Single photos will cost $5 and groups up to four will cost $10. Tell all of your friends!

ABSENT- I will be going to Ohio with the Harrison Marching Band this Friday for a Bands of America competition. Mrs. Addisen will be administering the IOWA test and Mrs. Batchelder will be the substitute.

SCHEDULE- We will be having a different schedule again this week. Lunch will be from 11:21-11:51 and specials will be from 1:15-2:00.

SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- We will not have a regular Cloze Review this week. Please use this week to study your own personal “Tab Words” found in the back of your spelling composition book.

ENGLISH/WRITING- We are currently working on the difference between writing a summary and writing a response to literature. We will use Edward and the Pirates to continue this skill. / Finish writing and sharing Cinderella stories

READING- We will be reading various tall tales this week and completing activities to go along with the stories. / Read and discuss Time For Kids

MATH- Continue working on addition and subtraction with regrouping / Review input and output

SCIENCE- Discuss rocks and minerals with Mrs. Huebener

NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER SEPT. 15-19

EARLY RELEASE DAY- Students will be dismissed tomorrow at 12:15.

HAT DAY- Students may bring $1.00 tomorrow so that they can wear a crazy hat. All donations go to Relay for Life The class with the most participation will win a popsicle party!

TESTING- We will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Because of the testing, our lunch and specials schedules have changed. We will have lunch from 11:21-11:51 and specials will be from 1:15-2:00. This will also be the lunch and specials schedule for next week during the ITBS. Please make sure your child gets to bed early, has at least 2, #2 pencils (not mechanical), and eats a good breakfast every morning. Homework will be minimal this week. We won’t have homework at all next week

CLASSROOM HELPERS- Because of our testing schedule, we will not be able to have parent helpers this week or next week from 8:30-9:30. If you were scheduled to work during this time, please come in from 10:30-11:20 if that works with your schedule. Please don’t worry if the new time won’t work for you.

MYSTERY READER-Many thanks to Mr. Nelson for coming in to read to our class today.

FALL GARDEN CLEAN-UP- Please come and help clean our beautiful gardens on Saturday, Sept. 28th from 8-12. Any time that you could donate would be appreciated.

CLASSROOM NEEDS- We would love some donations of wrapped candy or small goodies for our special drawers.

ACCELERATED READER- As of today, you have ______out of 10 points. Read! Read! Read! Ask a friend to give you a suggestion of a good book to read.

SOCIAL STUDIES- Test over maps on Tuesday. This will be the end of our first unit.

SCIENCE- Students will be going to Mrs. Huebener’s room for Science every day for the next four weeks.

ABSENT- I was not at school today. I took Allison to the University of Georgia for an official visit.

ACCELERATED READER- I sent home a letter on Friday showing how many AR points your child has so far. All students are expected to get 10 points by the end of the nine weeks. Please ask your child about what he/she is reading on a daily basis. Remember to log the minutes on the reading log.

MATH 7 MINUTE TIMED TEST- Students can choose which test they want to take each week. They don’t have to pass them in a certain order. All tests need to be passed with 100% accuracy by the end of the year.

PARENT HELPERS- Many thanks to all of the parent volunteers who have helped us out in the classroom. Mystery Reader started today…thanks Mrs. Appelgate!

LETTERS ABOUT STUDENTS- If you haven’t had a chance to write me a letter about your child, please take the time to write one. Your insight really helps!

LABOR DAY- I hope you and your family had a great holiday!

PERFORMING ARTS- Please return the Performing Arts permission form ASAP.

CATO ENVIRONMENTAL FIELD TRIPS- Please return the yellow and green permission forms ASAP. Remember, the money covers FIVE field trips…two away from school and three in school. If you would like to chaperone either of the away field trips, please attach a note to the permission form. I will draw names when all permission forms have been returned.

CLASS T-SHIRTS- For the first time, we are ordering class t-shirts in third grade. Our class color is royal blue. If you would like to order a class t-shirt, please send $10 tomorrow with your child’s t-shirt size. This is optional.

ACCELERATED READER- We are starting the fourth week of third grade…WOW! As of today, your child has _______out of 10 AR points. Every student needs 10 AR points by the end of the nine weeks. Please help your child meet this important goal.

READING LOG- Please remember to fill out the reading log. It is due every Monday. Students are expected to read at least 4 out of 7 nights every week.

MULTIPLICATION FACTS- Have you started memorizing your multiplication facts yet????? This is one of our most important standards. Please start learning those facts!

SIGNED PAPERS- When stapled papers come home, parents need to sign EVERY page. Students need to correct any questions that they missed. Misspelled words should be written FIVE times each. Misspelled words should also be added to the “Tab Words” section of the spelling composition book.
