NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER OCT. 20-24

FIELD TRIP- We had a nice trip to the Cato Environmental Center. The weather was perfect! Ask your child about predators, prey, migration, adaptations, and mimicry.

REPORT CARDS- Report cards came home on Friday. Thanks for signing the signature card and returning it in the envelope.

PHONE CONFERENCE- We won’t be having conferences until January this year. I feel like that is too long to wait and discuss your child’s progress. Because of this, I will be sending home a sheet this week setting up a time to call you to discuss your child’s strengths and weaknesses. The phone conference will last for about 15 minutes. My goal is to talk to each of you by the end of October.

TURKEY TALE CELEBRATION- Mark your calendars for Friday, November 21st from 8 A.M.-9 A.M. Parents are invited to join us for some food and fun!

RED RIBBON WEEK- We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week all week. Today, students received a red bracelet that they should wear all week. Tuesday is “Sock it to drugs”- students should wear crazy socks. Wednesday is “Don’t get crazy and mixed up with drugs”-students should wear mix-matched clothes/crazy hair. Thursday is “Team up against drugs”-students should wear their favorite team attire. And Friday is “Spirit Day”- Wear as much red as possible.

SPELLING- Core Words- four, head, above, kind, began Bonus Words- ate, eight, here, hear, for, fore, right, write, road, rode, threw, through, night, knight / Work on homophones this week / Ways to make long “I” sound / Cloze Review on Friday

READING- Students will be finishing traditional literature and beginning informational reading / “Lon Po Po”- comprehension test on Friday / Check out a biography book- read it each night. Students should have the biography book finished in two weeks. Further instructions for a book report will be given soon. For now, just read! / Remember, our AR goal for the second nine weeks is 10 points again. As of today your child has ______out of 10 points. / Time For Kids /

ENGLISH- Fall poems / Grammar Workshop Review Unit and Test- It covers all of the activities we have covered in our Grammar Workshop Book so far this year. / synonyms and antonyms / sequencing

MATH- MULTIPLICATION BEGINS!!!!!!!!!!!! A special “Fish Test” letter will be coming home later this week explaining how the multiplication tests work. Work on the twos tables all this week!!!!!!!!! Know them forwards, backwards, and upside down No fingers allowed.

SOCIAL STUDIES- Begin citizenship/ government unit
