NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER MARCH 31-APRIL 4

SPELLING PROJECT- The students were given a paper today explaining the spelling project that we will be working on AT SCHOOL this week. Our core words this week are: living, black, eat, short, United States. Our bonus words are: sentence, answer, research, presentation, visual, technology. Basically, the students are being asked to think of a black animal that lives in the United States. We will use our Language Arts time on Tuesday and Wednesday for research and preparation. The finished products will be presented on Thursday. If students will not be here on Thursday, the project needs to be finished and presented on Wednesday./ Close Review test on Thursday also.

PERFORMING ARTS FIELD TRIP- We will be going to the Cobb Civic Center tomorrow to see “Duck Soup”. We will eat lunch in the classroom from 10:15-10:45. We will leave for the play at 10:45 and should return about 1:30.

CRCT REVIEW- Continue to try the online tests at home. The more the students practice, the more comfortable they will feel when they take the actual test.

FISH TESTS- Everyone in our class has passed the zeroes through twelves tables. Please continue to review with your child. This new math unit will build on the multiplication facts that we’ve already learned.

SPRING BREAK- Spring Break starts after school on Friday. Enjoy your time off!!!

P.T.S.A. MEETING- Come hear the 5th grade musical on Thursday night starting at 6:30 in the gym.

CONGRATULATIONS- Our newest Math Buster is Harrison Kemp! Way to go Harrison!

SUBJECT MATTER:
SPELLING- Information at the top of the newsletter / separate info sheet coming home also

ENGLISH-Research and organize black animal information

VOCABULARY- Unit 8 words / Test on Wednesday

READING-We will be reading and discussing Encyclopedia Brown and the story elements associated with the mystery genre. Some chapters will be read at home and some will be read at school. We should be finished with the book by Friday.

SCIENCE- Students will be discussing heat and energy

MATH- We will begin our new unit today. Students will be learning how to do two and three digit by one digit multiplication using manipulatives and partial products/ Homework every night should be to practice basic multiplication and division facts…accuracy and speed are needed.

NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER MARCH 24-28

WEEKEND- I hope you had a wonderful weekend with your families.

ACCELERATED READER- We still aren’t sure when library books will have to be turned in for the end of the year inventory, so I’m setting the AR goal for 10 points. Please earn those early, so you won’t be stressed at the end of the nine weeks. So far, everyone is on track to get to come to the “P” Party…Yeah!!!!

FIELD TRIP- We will be going to the Root House/ Marietta Museum this Wednesday. The fieldtrip will be both inside and outside, so please listen to the weather and dress appropriately. We will be having lunch outside at the Marietta Square. I will remind students who ordered a sack lunch from school. Everyone else will need to bring their own lunch in a DISPOSABLE bag. We don’t want to have to keep up with lunch boxes. Everyone can bring their own drink of choice if they would like to. Mrs. Mufti and Mrs. Gilreath will be our chaperones.

TARGET- Students will have Target on Thursday this week instead of Friday.

GREAT EIGHT- If you have the game, Battleship, please bring it on Thursday. It will help with our discussion of map grids.

SPRING BREAK- Mark your calendars for April 7-11.

CRCT- Mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 23-Wednesday April 30. During those 6 days, students need to have a strict bedtime and be well rested.

MYSTERY READER- Thanks Mrs. Hendricks and Mr. Contreras for being our Mystery Readers. Mrs. Hendricks also brought us a neat St. Patrick’s Day treat as well as a very cute Spring Treat!

FRIDAY- We will be having a FUN integrated day. All of the subjects will be tied into a certain topic.

SOCIAL STUDIES-We took a test over the three branches of government after reviewing in class / Review for CRCT / map grids

NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER MARCH 17-21

ST. PATRICK’S DAY TREAT- Many thanks to Mrs. Hendricks for bringing us a special St. Patrick’s Day treat and for being our Mystery Reader.

POP AND READ- We will be having a pop and read tomorrow to kick off the last nine week period. We will discuss goals for the 4th nine weeks tomorrow. Students may bring sleeping bags, blankets, drinks, and snacks and of course…BOOKS!

ACCELERATED READER- Everyone is doing a great job meeting their AR goals, however, some students have dropped below the 85% overall comprehension level. That MUST be 85% or higher during the 4th nine week period in order to go to the “P” Party. Make sure you read the books carefully and that you really look at the author’s name before you commit to taking the test.

FIELD TRIP- We will be going to the Root House and the Marietta Museum of History next Wednesday. Mrs. Mufti will be our chaperone.

REPORT CARDS- Report cards will be sent home on Thursday. Please sign the signature card and return it in the UNSEALED envelope.

ONLINE CRCT PRACTICE- Please have your child try the online CRCT tests. Any practice and exposure will make the real test easier.

NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER MARCH 10-14

IN SCHOOL FIELD TRIP- We will have an environmental study on Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 with our friends from Cobb County Parks and Recreation.

CRCT- Please have your child try the online CRCT tests at home. We will be doing practice sheets at school also.

ACCELERATED READER- We have one more week to meet the AR goal of 12 points. I want everyone to be able to come to the “P” Party

REPORT CARDS- Report cards for the third nine weeks will be sent home on Thursday, March 20th.

THANK YOU- Many thanks to our Mystery Reader, Mrs. Evans! Mr. Contreras played a neat game with the students about animal and plant habitats. Mrs. Hendricks and Mrs. Vollbracht helped us with our silhouette art and our descriptive paragraphs.

HOYA AND THE HARE / NIGHT OF JAZZ- I have to put in an ad for the Harrison High School Band. We have two very neat events coming up. Hoya and the Hare road race will be on Saturday, March 22nd. Night of Jazz will be on Saturday, March 29th. If you would like more information on either event, let me know.

NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER MARCH 3-7

PICKETT’S MILL- If you are interested in being part of the new P.T.A. at Pickett’s Mill, please plan to attend a meeting on Tuesday, March 11th at 7:00 p.m. at North Star Church on Blue Springs Road.

READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY- Everyone is being asked to read for one hour (1:00-2:00) on Wednesday afternoon. Please have a great book ready to read!

EARLY RELEASE- Remember, students will be dismissed at 12:20 tomorrow.

BOOK FAIR- The wonderful book fair will be going on all week in the Media Center. Our class will have the opportunity to preview the books tomorrow. Please plan to bring you child to the fair either before school or after school one day this week

PICTURES- Please be looking for a picture to go with your descriptive writing. You will need it by Thursday of this week. Think about what you want to write about, and then how you could show that in a picture. It can be a picture that you can trace. It doesn’t need lots of details, because we will be making “silhouettes”.

ACCELERATED READER-Most students have already met their 12 point AR goal for this nine week period. If you haven’t, you have two weeks to meet your goal. It’s not long until the “P”Party. We want everyone to be able to come.

CONGRATULATIONS- Jameson Keasler is our newest Math Buster. Sarah Davis’s writing was chosen from our class to be considered for the Writing Fair.

MATH- The students did much better on the measurement corrections. The test should be signed tonight. Please help your child with the ones that were missed. We will introduce the Metric System this week / Perimeter and area

SCIENCE- Discuss swamp and marsh- emphasis on protecting the swamp/marsh areas of the state and nation


I would like to show the students the video of Shiloh on Wednesday. It is rated PG due to some language. Please cut this permission form off and return it tomorrow indicating if your child can see the video.
