MARTIN LUTHER KING HOLIDAY- I hope you enjoyed your time off.
INAUGURATION DAY- The students completed activities about Inauguration Day and the office of President. They also made speeches for their Inauguration Day acceptance speech.
ACCELERATED READER- We are in the third week of the new nine week period. As of today, your child has _______out of 10 AR points. Get started early so reading is FUN instead of stressful
7 MINUTE TIMED TESTS- We will continue having 7 minute timed tests on Wednesdays. Please help your child prepare for the test each week.
FISH TESTS- We will randomly take fish tests when we have spare minutes. Students should continue to review their multiplication facts regardless of whether we have a test or not.
HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL DANCE- I hope everyone is planning to come to the High School Musical Dance this Saturday from 6-8 at Allatoona High School. The cost is $2.00 per student.
CONFERENCE WEEK- We will start having conferences next week. Students will be dismissed at 12:20 each day. I have been saving graded papers to share at conference time. That’s why you haven’t received papers in a while.
TELLUS MUSEUM- I am very excited about our field trip to the Tellus Musuem. We will be going on Wednesday, February 25th. Parents, if you are interested in chaperoning, please send in a note. I will draw 2 names from the stack. Please be aware that parent chaperones will have to pay $12 at the door.

READING- Continue discussing cause and effect / Dictionary skills / Work on areas of weakness from Buckle Down
ENGLISH- Use grammar workshop book to review skills / Graded Review on Friday / Morning work packet / I will share the Midyear English Test with all parents at conference time.
WRITING- We will continue working on persuasive writing this week. We read Hey Little Ant and discussed the pros and cons for squishing the ant. Then we read I Wanna Iguana and came up with reasons for why we would or wouldn’t want an iguana for a pet. Ideas will then be developed into paragraphs./ Cursive handwriting
MATH- We will continue discussing fractions and working on areas of weakness from Buckle Down./Use Reteach Workbooks to review skills
SOCIAL STUDIES- Inauguration Day and duties of the president / Test over Franklin D. Roosevelt tomorrow (Wednesday) / Start reading and discussing Eleanor Roosevelt.

CLASSROOM NEEDS- We are running low on tissues and Lysol Wipes. We could also use some wrapped candy or other small goodies for the special drawers.
PLURALS PROJECTS- The students did a GREAT job on the Plurals Project! I was very impressed with all of the creative presentations.
FISH TESTS- All of our students have passed the 0-12 tests! Yeah! I told the students that we would continue to have random fish tests from now until the end of the year. They won’t necessarily be on a daily basis like they were this past nine weeks. Students should continue reviewing their facts every night. They need a very strong foundation for all of the math that they will be doing in the future.
ACCELERATED READER- All students need to have a MINIMUM of 10 AR points this nine weeks. Get started early!
IN SCHOOL FIELD TRIP- We will be having our In School Environmental Field Trip on Tuesday. The ladies from Cobb County Parks and Recreation Dept. will be working with the students.
SCIENCE LAB- We will be having our first lesson in the Science Lab on Wednesday. I am excited about the enrichment the students will be receiving.
NO SCHOOL- We will not have school next Monday, January 19th , due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.
ART LESSON- We will have an art lesson this Friday. Many thanks to Mrs. Dennehy and Mrs. Carraway for donating their time.

WELCOME BACK! I had a wonderful holiday break with my family. We did lots of eating, reading, and relaxing! I’m ready to get back on a schedule
CONFERENCE FORMS- Each child will be bringing home a conference form today. Please check your work schedules and let me know ASAP if your assigned time will work. Please suggest a new day and time if yours will not work.
PLURALS PROJECT- Students were given information for a Plurals Project today. The final project is due this Friday. Students should present the information in a creative format. Examples were shared in class. (Computer power points, construction paper, poster board, etc.)
ACCELERATED READER- Students will have a 10 point MINIMUM again this nine weeks. So far so good…Everyone is on track to attend the “P” Party at the end of the year. Yeah!
SCIENCE LAB- Our class will be visiting the new Science Lab tomorrow. I am very excited about this new addition to Ford. Thanks so much for your donations that made our Science Lab possible. Parents are invited to an Open House this Friday from 9:00-10:00 in room 405.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- I showed the students their spelling inventory tests from the beginning of the year and midyear. We discussed patterns and words that were missed. We also reviewed their Sitton Achievement Tests. This week we will be working on “Tough Group” spelling words…words with “ou” that don’t make the typical sound. Core Words-across, during, today, however, best Bonus-tough, thought, though, course, coarse, group, touch, dough, fought, enough / Cloze Review on Friday
ENGLISH- Students will be given a midyear English test next week. We will be reviewing topics this week: plurals, dictionary skills, comparisons in poetry, and pronouns / Plurals project is due Friday.
READING- We went to the media center today to get new books for the third nine weeks. Get started early on meeting the 10 point AR goal. / Time for Kids
MATH- We will only be doing a two day rotation with the Fish Tests now. One day will be In Order, the next will be the Real Deal. We will start taking the 7 minute timed tests again every Wednesday. / We will review elapsed time and schedules, input-output, rounding, and problem solving this week. Students looked at their 2nd quarter pre and post tests and compared the scores…boy did they learn a lot! / Please continue to review multiplication and division facts on a nightly basis…If you don’t use it, you lose it!
