NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER OCT. 5-9

END OF NINE WEEK PERIOD- It’s hard to believe we’re starting the ninth week of school. Report cards will go home next Friday.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION- Please send in all of your Box Tops labels in the baggy that is coming home today. You can also send them in an envelope. Make sure you label the bag or envelope with our class name. The winning class will receive a gift card to Barnes and Noble that we will donate to Clarkdale Elementary…how cool. Let’s help our school by earning money from Box Tops and help another school by gathering the most!

ACCELERATED READER- This is the last week to earn at least 8 AR points. We are very close to 100% participation. I want everyone to be able to go to the “P” Party at the end of the year.

CRCT PRACTICE TESTS- Information came home on Friday about how to take the on-line CRCT tests. Please have your child try these tests at least once a week from now until test time.

CATO IN-SCHOOL FIELD TRIP- We will be having our first CATO field trip tomorrow. Our out of school field trip will be next Tuesday.

BOOK FAIR- Please visit the Book Fair this week in the Media Center.

MATH BUSTER- Congratulations to Joshua Vollbracht for becoming our first Math Buster! He made 100% on addition, subtraction, multiplication 0-5, multiplication 0-12, and division!!!!!

CLASSROOM NEEDS- We are running low on Soft Soap and treats for the goodie drawer.

SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- EQ How can we tell the difference between ambiguous vowels? An assessment will be given on Friday.

ENGLISH- EQ What are the 4 types of sentences and how can we tell them apart?
EQ- How can we tell the difference between synonyms and antonyms?

READING –EQ What are the elements of a folktale? EQ- How can we compare and contrast different versions of the same story?…Little Red Riding Hood vs Lon Po Po… Three Little Pigs vs The Three Little Javelinas / We will be using Venn Diagrams to compare and contrast. We will have comprehension tests over each of the stories.

MATH-EQ- How do we make change from $1.00, $5.00 and $10.00? EQ- How do we tell time to the nearest hour and half hour? EQ- How do we get an answer from input/output? Many thanks to all of the parents who have volunteered to come in and help us learn how to make change this week! Parents, please help your child with this concept at home. Have some change and bills available. Buy something like a pencil from your child who will act as the cashier. Hand your child a $1.00 bill and make them count back the change to you. / We will be reviewing all concepts from the nine weeks. The Benchmark Test will be given on Friday.
