NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER NOV. 9-13

FORD ELEMENTARY WAS CHOSEN AS A GEORGIA SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE!!!!!!!! Let’s keep “expecting success”!!!!!

ACWORTH FOOD BANK- Please pick up a few extra cans of fruits or vegetables or a box of spaghetti or mac and cheese the next time you are at the grocery store. We have a box in our room for collections.

VETERANS’ WALL OF HONOR- Please visit the Ford website to download a scroll and to get information about the Veterans’ Wall of Honor.

TURKEY TALE CELEBRATION- Mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 18th. Lunch in the cafeteria will begin at 12:05. We will come back to the classroom after the feast, and share our Turkey Tales with the parents. The Turkey Tales should start at ~1:00 and end at ~1:45.

MUSIC REWARD DAY- Students may wear their P.J.’s on Thursday for a Music Reward from Mrs. Beale.

READING AWARD- Michael Kriebel received the Reading Award for our class for the month of October. Congratulations Michael!

PRINCIPAL’S MATH CHALLENGE- Grace Tam passed the division section of the Principal’s Math Challenge and Julianne White passed the addition and subtraction sections! Congratulations girls!

MULTIPLICATION FISH TESTS- Please make sure that your child is studying his/her math facts EVERY night. Remember, this will form the foundation for all of the upcoming math that we will be doing this year and in the years to come. It is imperative that the students learn these facts…not just for the test… but, for life

PROGRESS REPORT- A progress report will be sent home on Friday.

SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- EQ-How can you distinguish between words that end with –tch and –ch? Remember that many of the words that end with –tch have the SHORT vowel sound and many of the words that end with –ch have the LONG vowel sound. An assessment will be given on Friday.





ENGLISH-EQ- How do you make words plural? Review and practice all of the ways to make words plurals. We will be doing many activities and worksheets throughout the week to learn and practice the various rules. An assessment over plurals will be given on Friday.

WRITING- EQ- How can you write an effective/ entertaining story with a turkey as one of the characters? Share the book Turk and Runt. Brainstorm ideas and discuss the audience.

READING- EQ- What are the meanings of various prefixes and suffixes? Find words with prefixes and suffixes in our everyday reading. Discuss contractions and notice how often they are used in books. Read for Stampede to Read /Read Time for Kids and complete the assessment.

MATH-EQ- What is the relationship between multiplication and division? We will continue to discuss the parts of a division problem and ways to solve division problems. Fish tests will be given EVERY day. Please be prepared for these tests every day.

SCIENCE-EQ- How can we recognize the three different types of rocks and how they are formed? We will complete a hands on activity to learn about the three kinds of rocks. Many thanks to all of the parents who came in to help us!

SOCIAL STUDIES- EQ-What are the character traits related to Frederick Douglass? How should Frederick Douglass be remembered? We will discuss Susan B. Anthony towards the end of the week.
