NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER NOV. 16-20

THANKSGIVING FEAST AND TURKEY TALE CELEBRATION- Please join us on Wednesday, November 18th for our Thanksgiving feast in the cafeteria starting at 12:05. We will come back to the classroom after we eat and share our Turkey Tales. We should start reading our stories at ~1:00 and should be finished by ~1:45.

THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY- We will not have school the week of November 23rd. I’ll see everybody on November 30th.

STAMPEDE TO READ- The reading incentive program ends on Monday, November 30th.

ACCELERATED READER- The students are doing a great job earning AR points this nine weeks. Many have already surpassed the 10 point goal, and we are only half way through the nine week period. If you don’t have 10 points yet, please work hard to reach the goal.

FISH TESTS- We are still taking a timed math test EVERY day! What we do at school is not enough. The students need LOTS of reinforcement at home in order to master the facts. Remember, these multiplication facts are the foundation for everything we will be doing in math for the remainder of the year. Students should be practicing their facts every night. Don’t just learn the facts for the test, learn them for life!

BIOGRAPHY BOOK REPORTS- Each child will check out a biography book today. I will approve it for the correct level and number of pages. Students should read the book in the next two weeks. (This week and the week after Thanksgiving) I will give them instructions for how they will write their book reports after we get back from the holiday break.

SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- EQ- How are contractions formed? We will be discussing the two words that make up contractions. An assessment will be given on Friday.

ENGLISH-EQ- How can we make singular and plural nouns possessive? (Parents, the rules have changed since you were in school…if a word is singular, you ALWAYS add ‘s, no matter how the word ends…example…Mrs. Priss’s desk, the bus’s tire, the class’s reward. The plural rules are the same. Practice sheets will be given all week. An assessment will be given on Friday. / Using a Thesaurus / Benchmark test over all of the English skills we have covered so far this year.

READING-EQ- How do prefixes and suffixes change the meanings of root words? / Read and complete Time for Kids- comprehension questions to follow / Fact and opinion / Following directions / Read for Stampede to Read
