I’m back! Thanks for all of the well wishes for my mother. Her surgery went well and she is on the mend.
CONFERENCE WEEK- Our specials time this week is 8:15-8:50 and our brunch time this week is 10:18-10:48. Students will be dismissed at 12:15 every day. I’m looking forward to meeting with everyone.
SIGNED PAPERS- We have been doing lots of pretesting and evaluating, so that’s why you haven’t received many graded papers lately. I’ll share all the info.at conferences.
SEVEN MINUTE TIMED TEST- We will resume our 100 problem, 7 minute timed tests after conference week. Please help your child start studying for next week. I will let you know what your child needs to study when we meet this week.
LUNCHROOM BEHAVIOR- I was very disappointed in the lunchroom behavior today. A child brought cupcakes to share for his birthday. Almost half of the students in our class smeared them all over their faces or crammed them in their mouths in one bite. Please talk to your child about appropriate behavior and expectations in the lunchroom. If you read this, please draw a cupcake in the signature portion of the agenda.
ACCELERATED READER- Please check the agenda tomorrow for your child’s AR points. They need 10 points by the end of the nine week period.
FISH TESTS- We are still taking the fish tests on a two day rotation. Tomorrow will be the Real Deal Nines for everyone. Please practice and review with your child.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING-EQ- How do you know when to add “s” or “es” to make a word plural? An assessment will be given on Friday.
ENGLISH- EQ- What is the difference between present and past tense? What are the past tense forms of irregular verbs? We will continue discussing irregular verbs and their usage. We will be doing activities out of the GUMS workbook and the English book.
READING-EQ- How do prefixes and suffixes affect the meanings of words and the passages that we read? We will be using Buckle Down to review and practice prefixes and suffixes. / Continue to read and record minutes for Six Flags reading / Remember to record at least 4 out of 7 nights on the reading log. / Time For Kids
MATH-EQ- How do you add fractions with like denominators? Test on Friday over area, perimeter, and fractions./ Fish tests every day / 7 minute tests start next week
SOCIAL STUDIES-EQ- How does note taking help us to remember important facts about the people we have studied so far? (Susan B. Anthony, Frederick Douglass, and Paul Revere)
SCIENCE-EQ- What plants and animals live in Georgia? We will continue gathering information on the animals found in Georgia.

I hope you enjoyed your long weekend. We finally had some nice weather!
ABSENT- I will be here for half of the day tomorrow. I will be out all of Thursday and Friday for my mother’s surgery in Tennessee. I will not have e-mail access while I am gone. Mrs. Toner will be my substitute.
CONFERENCE WEEK- I am looking forward to meeting with everyone. It is always valuable to discuss strengths, weaknesses, and goals for success. I will be handing out report cards at conference time also. Remember, students will be dismissed at 12:15 each day next week.
ACCELERATED READER- All students need 10 points by the end of the nine week period. Get started early!

WELCOME BACK! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. I spent a lot of my time being a nurse for Kevin. I’m very happy to say that both of his surgeries went very well and he is doing great!
THANK YOU- My family went out to Outback and had a wonderful dinner. Thanks so much for the gift cards. I bought two pairs of earrings and a new wallet with my Kohl’s card. I truly appreciate your generosity. You all are the best!
MISSING GLUE BOTTLES- Did anyone happen to pick up some glue bottles after the holiday party? We are missing about 6 bottles of glue.
DOUGHNUTS AND JUICE- The students earned their silver spoon reward from the cafeteria and they chose to have doughnuts and juice. I will bring breakfast for the students tomorrow
COUPON BOOKLET- Students received coupon booklets for Christmas. They can use one coupon per week until the end of the year.
MEDIA CENTER- We will be going to the Media Center tomorrow so make sure you have your library books at school.
ACCELERATED READER- All students met their goals again for the second nine weeks! Yeah!!! Grace Tam had 106 points for the nine week period…WOW! The goal for the third nine weeks will be 10 points again. Get started early!
“P” PARTY- I am very excited about the “P” Party. I played Rock Band with Allison and Kevin over the holidays and I loved it!!! I can’t wait to play some more Rock Band and other games!!
BUCKLE DOWN- We will be taking the Buckle Down math and reading pretests this week. Buckle Down is a wonderful program that helps students prepare for the CRCT.
NO SCHOOL- Monday, January 18th is the Martin Luther King holiday.
CONFERENCE WEEK- Conference forms will be coming home on January 11th or possibly earlier. Please indicate a new time if the one I suggested will not work for you. I am trying to do the conferences mainly on Tuesday, Jan. 26th, Wednesday, Jan. 27th, and Thursday, January 28th. Let me know in your child’s agenda if you have a preference for a certain day. I will have a few openings on Monday but not any on Friday. Students will be dismissed at 12:20 every day that week.

ENGLISH-We will be finishing the illustrations for our Cinderella stories./ Review standards covered in the first two nine week periods
READING- EQ- What are the elements of a fairy tale and a play? / Buckle Down pretest / Time for Kids / Read The True Story of the Three Little Pigs and read the play of the Three Little Pigs / Fluency tests will be done on each child this week / Media Center on Wednesday
CURSIVE HANDWRITING- EQ- Are you able to recognize and form all of the cursive letters? We will begin cursive handwriting this week. Students will start writing in cursive after all of the letters have been introduced.
MATH- EQ-What are the steps in a long division problem? / Buckle Down pretest / Pretest over fractions and decimals / Fish tests will continue on a two day rotation…Mixed Up and then Real Deal – The number missed on the Real Deal will be doubled for homework. PLEASE help your child study for these very important tests.
SCIENCE- EQ- What are the regions of Georgia? What plants and animals are found in each region? / Start researching an animal found in Georgia.
