NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER OCT. 11-15
TESTING- We have completed our standardized testing. The children worked very hard. Thanks for sending in all of the snacks and surprises.
AR/ POP AND READ- All of the students met their AR goals for the first nine weeks! Yay! For the second nine weeks, students will need 10 AR points with 80% accuracy. Please get started early. We will have a Pop and Read on Wednesday to help the students get off to a great start this nine weeks.
REFLECTIONS- Congratulations to Caroline Morris and Elli McElhannon for doing a great job in the Reflections contest. An awards ceremony will be held on Thursday night at Durham starting at 7:00.
YEARBOOK- Congratulations to Amanda McCullough! Her artwork will be on the back cover of the yearbook.
SPIRIT DAY- Our class earned the most money for Relay For Life last Friday. We had our picture taken and we get popsicles today. If you read this, please write “popsickle” in the agenda.
BOOK FAIR- Students will be able to preview the Book Fair on Friday. The Book Fair will be open every morning and afternoon during conference week.
CONFERENCE WEEK- Thanks for returning all of the conference forms so quickly. I am looking forward to sharing information with you about your child. Students will be dismissed at 12:15 each day next week.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- We will be studying homophones this week. Students will need to know the spelling and MEANING of each word this week. Please help your child practice using their homophone cards that we will be making this week. An assessment will be given on Thursday.
ENGLISH- Learning the difference between singular and plural will be our focus this week. We will also start learning all of the different ways to make words plural.
READING- Pop and Read on Wednesday/ Read Time For Kids and complete comprehension sheet/ Read homophone books: Eight Ate- A Feast of Homophone Riddles / Read Dear Deer/ Compare and contrast different versions of Cinderella
MATH-We will be taking the second quarter pretest today / Start learning multiplication strategies/ Discuss arrays, groups, repeated addition, and fact families /7 minute timed test on Wednesday-This will be the last one for a while...until we finish the Fish Tests/Fish Test letter will be coming home on Thursday. Please read it carefully!
SCIENCE- Finish discussing rocks and minerals and the different types of soils
HEALTH- Group Guidance lesson on Tuesday with Mrs. Charette.
