NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER NOV. 8-12
BOOSTERTHON FUN RUN- The students did a great job running on Friday. They brought home collection envelopes that need to be returned by this Thursday. Thanks so much for supporting the Science Lab!
CATO FIELD TRIP- We will be going on a field trip to the CATO Nature Center this Wednesday. Some students ordered a sack lunch from school. If your child did not order a sack lunch from school, please send one from home. ALL students can bring a soda. Dress appropriately for the weather. We will be outside for part of the field trip. Our Earth Parent will be our chaperone for the field trip.
ACCELERATED READER- We are almost half way through the second nine weeks. Students must earn 10 AR points this time with 80% comprehension. I will be sending home a printout of scores and percentages tomorrow. Please encourage your child to read every night
MULTIPLICATION FISH TESTS- The students are working very hard on their multiplication facts. Thanks so much for all of the extra practice and encouragement at home. Keep up the great work!
RACHEL’S CHALLENGE- PARENTS ONLY are invited to a special introduction to Rachel’s Challenge at Durham Middle School on Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. Our school will have our kick off rally on Friday.
BARNES AND NOBLE- Please come to Barnes and Noble on Monday, November 15th. The third grade teachers will be reading from 6-6:30. Ford will receive a portion of the sales that night. Get an early start on your holiday shopping.
TURKEY TALE CELEBRATION AND FEAST- We are excited about sharing our Turkey Tales with you on Wednesday, November 17th at 11:00 in the classroom. It will be very “cozy” because lots of parents will be joining us!! After our classroom celebration, you are invited to eat a Thanksgiving feast in the cafeteria from 12:10-12:55.
THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY- Students will be out of school November 22-26.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- We are studying words this week that end with –tch and –ch / An assessment will be given on Thursday.
ENGLISH- Turkey Tales will be our main focus this week/ We will also be taking a practice Benchmark test / Review contractions
READING- Comprehension over Time For Kids / Fact and Opinion /Georgia News Weekly / Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving / SRI test in the computer lab / Main Idea assessment
MATH- Continue taking fish tests- The top group took the Real Deal Sixes today and are moving up to the sevens tables. Please encourage your child to study on a daily basis. / Continue to introduce geometry terms. So far we have discussed circles (radius and diameter) 3 types of triangles (equilateral, isosceles, and scalene) lines, line segments, rays, angles(acute, right, and obtuse) Please ask your child which triangle has two equal sides. Write the answer in the signature section of the agenda.
SOCIAL STUDIES- Introduce “Where in the World” / Read and discuss Susan B. Anthony
