NEWSLETTER MRS.T URNER JAN. 4-7
WELCOME BACK! I hope you had a restful, enjoyable holiday with friends and family.
THANKS!- I used my class money to buy some blue topaz earrings, necklace, and ring. I love them! I will think of this very special group every time I wear them.
GEOMETRY QUILTS- The geometry quilts were fantastic! I could tell that lots of hard work and effort went in to completing those. Our quilt winners were: FIRST PLACE- Averi Visage and Elli McElhannon, SECOND PLACE- Isabel Stroth, THIRD PLACE- Mason Babay and FOURTH PLACE- Elizabeth Kriebel and Amanda McCullough. Congratulations to EVERYONE for a job well done
CATO IN SCHOOL FIELD TRIP- We will have a skull study tomorrow with our friends from CATO.
REPORT CARDS- I will be sending home report cards on Friday. Please keep the report card and AR report at home. Sign the signature card and return it in the unsealed envelope.
ACCELERATED READER- Once again, students will need to earn 10 AR points for the 3rd nine weeks. Please go over the AR report from second nine weeks with your child. We are half way through the third grade year, therefore, students should be reading books that are 3.5 or higher. (Of course, every child is an individual and different scenarios apply to every child) Notice the average book level of your child’s choices of books. Also notice the % correct. It needs to be 80% or higher./ New reading logs will be coming home today.
MEDIA CENTER- We will be going to the media center on Thursday. Everyone needs to be able to check out a book that day. Make sure you have your library books with you on Thursday.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- The words this week involve adding “ing” to the end of words. Even though this is a short week, we will still have our assessment on Thursday. Start studying early in the week! / We will be taking our midyear spelling inventory tomorrow.
ENLGISH- We will use this week to review topics from first and second nine weeks: singular and plural nouns, singular and plural possessive nouns, and the 4 types of sentences.
READING- We will be discussing biography books and other nonfiction types of books/ We will review landforms and women’s rights by reading Georgia News Weekly/ Time for Kids will review the year in pictures. / We will review folktales and fables by reading “Borreguita and the Coyote”. A comprehension test will be given on Thursday.
MATH- We will take a pretest today over fractions, decimals, and measurement. We will begin our study of fractions this week. A 7 minute timed test will be given on Wednesday. Please help your child prepare. We will continue to take fish tests on a 2 day rotation. If your child has passed the twelves, he/she will be taking the eights tomorrow. Please write what test your child will be taking tomorrow in the agenda.
SOCIAL STUDIES- Review rivers and mountains in the US. / Review Susan B. Anthony
