NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER FEB. 14-18
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! The students had fun handing out their Valentines and reading the cute messages. They especially liked all of the treats! Many thanks to the parents who sent in the special Valentine’s Day snack.
MEDIA CENTER/ AR- We will be checking out books in the media center on Thursday. Make sure you have all of your library books with you that day. Remember, all students need 10 AR points by March 18th. The winter break will be a great time to catch up on reading if you are behind.
XTRA ACTIVITY THIS THURSDAY- We will be watching a special movie this Thursday for Xtra Activity. I will provide the popcorn. Students may bring a drink from home.
PJ DAY THIS FRIDAY- Relay for Life is asking students to bring $1.00 on Friday in order to wear PJ’s. Please support this great cause
DR. DEPEW- Dr. Depew came and talked to all of the third grade students on Friday about proper dental care and the anatomy of the teeth. He did a great smart board presentation for the students and he gave each third grade student a bag of goodies.
WINTER BREAK- Students will not have school next week.
COBB COUNTY CALENDAR FOR NEXT YEAR- Please go online and fill out the survey for your calendar of choice. Voice your opinion as to which calendar you would like for next year. In the agenda, write a 1, 2, or 3 showing your preference.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- This week we are working on words that end with –y and –ey. An assessment will be given on Thursday
ENGLISH- We will be correcting some cumulative assessments. We will also be writing thank you letters to Dr. Depew.
WRITING- Our main focus this week will be our Georgia animal research. I graded the papers all weekend and made suggestions and provided corrections. This week the students will edit and rewrite their papers. We will share the papers this week also.
READING- One on one reading with Mrs. Turner. I will be listening to each individual child for fluency, tone, expression, and comprehension./ Time For Kids/ Buckle Down-prefixes and suffixes
CURSIVE- We will start learning cursive handwriting this week: I, t, u, w, e, l, b, and h. Students should not try to write in cursive until we have learned all of the letters…lower case and upper case. They will form bad cursive habits if they try the letters before they have been given proper instruction.
MATH- An assessment over decimals will be given today. We will be reviewing area and perimeter. We will introduce fractional parts of a set. No fish tests will be given this week. A seven minute timed test will be given on Wednesday.
SOCIAL STUDIES- Test over Mary Bethune and the 4 kinds of resources tomorrow./ Discuss segregation and diligence
SCIENCE- Introduce the regions of Georgia. Ask your child to SHOW YOU how to spell Georgia

NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER FEB. 7-11
SCIENCE NIGHT- Please plan to attend Science Night tomorrow night from 6:30-8:00 in the gym. We have a wonderful Science Lab here at Ford. We want to keep the lab! Please come and see all of the wonderful things the students are learning. Students who attend Science Night will receive a free homework pass
PICTURE DAY- Spring pictures will be taken tomorrow at ~10:30. Class pictures will be taken tomorrow along with individual pictures for those who want them.
CATO INDOOR FIELD TRIP- Please ask your child about our field trip. We learned about the various regions of Georgia and some plants, animals, and soils found in each region. Please write the name of the region we live in in the agenda.
DENTAL HEALTH MONTH- Dr. Depew will be coming to Ford on Friday to do a lesson with all of the third grade students.
VALENTINE’S DAY- Students will be allowed to hand out Valentines next Monday if they would like to. If students decide to hand out Valentines, they must include everyone in the class. We will make a Valentine folder at school to hold all of the cards. A class list was sent home at the beginning of the year with all of the names and addresses,etc. If you need another class list, please write a note in the agenda.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- We will be working on plurals again this week-change f to v and add es, change the word, keep the word the same/ Assessment on Thursday
ENGLISH- Review their, there, and they’re/Assessment in GUMS over all of the topics covered so far
WRITING-We will start writing our Georgia animal research paper today. We have discussed how to write main idea sentences and how to set up our papers. We will continue working on our research paper throughout the week.
READING- Our main topic this week will be a discussion of Mary M. Bethune and how she affected American history./Read AR book- All students need 10 AR points by March 18th.
MATH- Discuss decimals in money, times, stats, etc./ Review decimal fractions
