NEWSLETTER MRS.T URNER MAR. 7-11
MAGGIE MOO’S- Ford students are invited to Maggie Moo’s tonight from 4-9. Our class all received free passes last week because of excellent behavior in Science Lab.
BOOK FAIR- The Book Fair will be going on all week. Students may bring money and shop for new books
CURRICULUM NIGHT- Everyone is invited to Curriculum Night this Thursday. Preordered dinner will be from 6-6:30. Activities will last from 6:30-7:30. Science Fair Winners will be announced that night!
ACCELERATED READER- Two weeks to go!!!!! Students have two more weeks to earn 10 AR points with at least 80% comprehension.
CRCT PRACTICE- Have you been trying any of the online CRCT tests? They are great practice!
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- This week we are learning how to add –ing,-s and-ed to various root words. /An assessment will be given on Thursday
ENGLISH-Dictionary skills/ Using articles correctly/ DOL quizzes
READING- “Nature’s Great Balancing Act”-comprehension test on Wednesday/ Georgia News Weekly-Franklin Roosevelt/ Time For Kids-“People Power”/ Main Idea / Reading charts and graphs
WRITING- Continue working on cursive letters
MATH- Students completed “Measurement in My Home” this past week at home. I hope the extra measurement practice at home helped. We will continue working on the standard/customary system of measurement. Please help your child review measuring to the nearest inch, ½ inch, and ¼ inch. An assessment over measurement will be given on Monday and Tuesday. We will introduce the metric system this week.
SOCIAL STUDIES- Franklin D. Roosevelt will continue to be our topic of discussion. Students should start studying for the test that will be given on Wednesday. All students should have very good notes covering the info in the book. We will begin our discussion of Eleanor Roosevelt this week also.
SCIENCE- What do we see in our backyards? Mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, insects, spiders, and plants? Students are being asked to write down what they see and hear in their backyards, and then they should sketch a picture of their backyard. Please help your child with specific names of trees and flowers in your yard. Write the name of a tree in the agenda. We will also continue discussing the 5 regions of Georgia. An assessment will be given on Thursday over the 5 different regions of Georgia. Students should be able to tell me at least 2 plants and 2 animals found in each region. They also need to tell me some specific information from each region. If your child studies and reviews the booklets we made in class, he/she will do great on the assessment!
