NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER AUG. 29-SEPT.2
CATO FIELD TRIPS- Thank you for returning the permission forms and payments for the 5 field trips. Please send those in when you are able.
PICTURE DAY- We will get our pictures made on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at ~10:00.
NO SCHOOL- We will not have school on Monday, Sept. 5th.
OPEN HOUSE- Please plan to attend Open House on Thursday, Sept. 15th at 6:00. The night will start with a meeting in the gym and then parents will be dismissed to the classrooms.
ACCELERATED READER- Please ask your child how he/she is doing toward his/her AR goal. All students need at least 9 points by the end of the first nine weeks. We are starting our third week. Students are able to check out books from the media center and take AR tests on a daily basis.
PRIZES AND TREATS- Some of you have asked if we need things donated in the classroom. We can always use little prizes and treats for our goody drawer. Many thanks to the families who have already sent in items!
BINDERS- Please remember to clean out binders every weekend. Do NOT remove papers from the “Return to School” side of the binder during the week.
SIGNED PAPERS- Please sign EACH page when we send home papers.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- We will be working on the long vowel sound using ai, oa, ee, ea, ui, and oo. An assessment will be given on Friday.
ENGLISH- Types of sentences and common and proper nouns will be our focus this week.
READING-Skinnybones – comprehension questions will be asked after each chapter we read- A final noel test will be given on Friday/ How I Spent My Summer Vacation- Writing assignments will coincide with both books
MATH- Placed value will still be our main focus. We will also discuss Benchmark numbers./ A 7 minute timed test will be given every Wednesday. Please help your child prepare with flashcards, timed sites on the blog, computer games, etc.
SOCIAL STUDIES- We will culminate our map skills with a test on Tuesday. Students will be bringing home a study guide today. (Monday) We will begin our study of Greece and how it helped shape the United States.

Newsletter Aug. 22-26

WOW-We had a great first week!
E-MAIL- Test e-mails were sent out to all families. If you ever send me an e-mail and I don’t respond within 24 hours, that means I didn’t get it. Try again or write me a note in your child’s agenda. Many of our e-mails tend to go to the spam folder.
THANKS- Parents, thank you so much for getting all of the forms turned in so quickly. We are still missing a few Performing Arts permission envelopes. They were located in the Cobb County Folders that were sent home last week. Please return the envelope as soon as you can.
PARENT LETTERS-Many thanks to all of the parents who have had the opportunity to write a letter to me about your child. If you haven’t had a chance yet, please do so. It is very helpful to get insight from you.
SCHOOL PICTURES-Individual pictures will be taken on Tuesday, August 30th.
AGENDAS-The children did a great job catching on to everything this week. Please remember NOT to take any papers out of the Return to School side of the binder….even if they look like they are finished or have already been checked. We will go through our binders every Friday and move any necessary papers to the Keep at Home side. Please DO clean out the Keep at Home side on a daily basis.
OPEN HOUSE-Open House will be on Thursday, Sept. 15 starting at 6:00 in the gym for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.
FIELD TRIPS-We have some EXCELLENT field trip opportunities coming up for our third grade students. We will be sending home some information soon.
MEDIA CENTER AND ACCELERATED READER-Students will be able to check out library books on Monday after we have our orientation. All students need to have at least 9 AR points this first nine weeks. Get started early!
READING LOGS-Reading logs should be turned in every Monday. Students must read at least 15 minutes, 4 out of 7 nights.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- We will begin our first sort involving words with long vowel sounds. Students will have spelling homework throughout the week. An assessment will be given on Friday.
ENGLISH- We will be working on the four kinds of sentences: declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory.
WRITING- Friendly letters/ How to write a great paragraph/ Journal writing
READING- Appelemando’s Dreams-quiz on Friday/ One-on-one reading for main idea/ Responses to Skinnybones/How to choose a book/ Great authors, books, and series-assessment on Wednesday/Read at least 15 minutes 4 out of 7nights-record minutes on reading log-due every Monday
MATH- Place value-Assessment on Friday
SOCIAL STUDIES- Cardinal and intermediate directions/ Lines of latitude and longitude/ Equator and Prime Meridian
