NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER OCT. 3-7
CATO- We will be going to CATO Nature Center tomorrow. It is supposed to be a beautiful day, but cool in the morning. We WILL be outside so make sure to dress in layers. Bring a sack lunch and drink if you did not order one from school. Mrs. Perkins, our Earth Parent, will be our chaperone.
VULCAN ROCK QUARRY- We had a neat field trip to the Vulcan Rock Quarry. The students were able to see how the rock is mined. They also received a hard hat, info book, and as many rocks as they could fit in their bags! Mrs. Gibson got lots of cool pictures.
SCIENCE NIGHT- Please join us tomorrow night for a great night of hands-on science experiments! The activities start at 6:00 in the gym and cafeteria. Any student who comes from our class and completes at least 5 experiments, will be exempt from all homework Tuesday night. Make sure you bring your form to school on Wednesday to prove that you were there. You will also receive a homework pass for future use. I will be working at the pulley station. Come see me
STANDARDIZED TESTING- We will begin taking the Cognitive Abilities Test on Wednesday. Students need to bring their own snacks this week. We will have a SPECIAL snack schedule next week for the ITBS test. A letter was sent home last week with assigned days and items. Students should get to bed early and eat a good breakfast each morning during testing.
CONFERENCE WEEK- We will be having conferences after school the week of Oct. 24-28. Students will be dismissed at 12:30 each day that week.
ACCELERATED READER- All students need 9 AR points by the end of the nine week period. We only have two weeks left to meet that goal. Please encourage your child to meet his/her AR goal.
BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION- Please continue to send in Box Tops to help our school earn money.
REFLECTIONS CONTEST- All students are working on a literature piece for the Reflections contest at school. Students are encouraged to try another category at home.
SUBJECT MATTER:
SPELLING- Our sounds this week are:au, ou, al, and aw. An assessment will be given on Friday.
ENGLISH/WRITING- We will be writing a paragraph about Author’s Purpose. We are also writing our final drafts for our favorite place. Reflections writings will be worked on at school this week./ Antonyms will be discussed./ Review subjects and predicates
READING- We will be reading some cute books this week: A Mink, a Fink, a Skating Rink-a book about nouns / To Root, to Toot, to Parachute-a book about verbs / Punctuation Takes a Vacation-a book about punctuation
MATH- We will be using this week to review for our POST TEST and to review time and money. If you read this, please draw a $ in the agenda. We will still take the 7 minute timed test on Wednesday. Congratulations to Valerie Barnhart for becoming our first Math Buster!!!!
