NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER NOV. 28-DEC. 2
MEDIA CENTER- We will be going to the media center tomorrow to get new books. Please have your library books at school tomorrow.
THANKSGIVING- I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break. I am sorry that we weren’t able to all get together and share all of the things we are thankful for. Hopefully your child shared the special letter with you at home.
HOLILDAY SHOPPE- All of the students will have the opportunity to go to the Holiday Shoppe tomorrow during the school day. Envelopes were sent home last week. Please feel free to send money with your child tomorrow if he/she would like to do some early holiday shopping.
FISH TESTS- Please continue to help your child study for the fish tests. They need to be learning the facts for life…not just for the test!
GEOMETRY QUILT- Students were given information today on an upcoming geometry project. Examples were shown and discussed in class. The quilts are due on Tuesday, December 20th. This is a great project that needs to be worked on daily. Please don’t wait until the last minute. Do a little each day
SYMMETRICAL DRAWINGS- Please look for large pictures of faces in magazines. They must be facing forward. We need these pictures by Friday for an art project.
JINGLE JAMBOREE- Students are invited to come to the Jingle Jamboree on Saturday from 9:00-12:00.
ACCELERATED READER- All students need to earn at least 10 AR points by December 22nd. Students also need to have at least 80% accuracy.
HOLIDAY PARTY- Mrs. Kastensmidt and I will be discussing our holiday party and what all will be needed. Please look for upcoming e-mails. Please plan to join us on Wednesday, December 21st at 12:30 for our party.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING-We will be discussing contractions this week and next week. An assessment will be given on Friday.
ENGLISH-Homophones will be our main focus this week: there, their, they’re, it’s, its, you’re, your, to, too, and two. Read Dear Deer/ Assessments will be given daily on the various words./ DOL quizzes/Review possessive nouns
READING- Compare and contrast Lon Po Po and other versions of Little Red Riding Hood. A comprehension quiz will be given over Lon Po Po on Friday./ Read and discuss Time For Kids
MATH- Continue discussing geometry terms. Get started on Geometry Quilts. Students may bring their math journals home each night to help with the Geometry Quilt. Just make sure to bring them back each day./ Work on sevens, eights, and nines multiplication facts this week.
SOCIAL STUDIES- Frederick Douglass will be our focus this week. We will also discuss the Appalachian and Rocky Mountain ranges. Which mountain range is the “young” one? Write the answer in your agenda.

NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER NOV. 14-18
CAN DRIVE- Many thanks to all of the families who sent in cans. I know the families who receive them will be very thankful.
FIFTH GRADE MUSICAL- Please come and see the Science Fair Winners and the Fifth Grade Musical on Tuesday, November 15th.
NOTEBOOK PAPER- Please ask your child if he/she needs more notebook paper. Many of the students are running low at this point in the year. Our class “stash” is almost gone.
ACCELERATED READER- All students need at least 10 AR points with at least 80% accuracy by Thursday, December 22nd. Please encourage your child to meet this goal. All students wrote a note in their agendas today showing their points and percentage.
TYPISTS NEEDED- Are you a good typist? We need your help! The students have written their own versions of Cinderella, and we would like to turn each one of them into a book. If we could get 4-5 parents, we could get them finished pretty quickly. Please let me know if you are interested. I will also need parents to bind the books once they are typed. Let me know if you are interested in that too.
NOTE CARDS NEEDED- We are using notecards to make our multiplication facts. We are running low on 3 X 5 notecards. We would appreciate any donations that you could send in.
THANKSGIVING FEAST- We are looking forward to all of you joining us on Wednesday, November 16th from 12:05-12:50 for lunch and then back to the classroom to celebrate all that we are thankful for.
THANKSGIVING BREAK- Students will be out of school from November 21-25.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- We are working on –tch and –ch words this week. An assessment will be given on Friday.
ENGLISH- Possessive Nouns have been our focus for the past two weeks. An assessment will be given on Tuesday or Wednesday this week./ We will be making Turkey Plurals Booklets this week.
READING- We will be reading The Three Little Javelinas. A comprehension test will be given on Thursday. / We will also be reading other versions of the Three Little Pigs and comparing and contrasting them/ We will be sharing many cute Thanksgiving books./Fact and opinion will be discussed and assessed.
MATH-Learning the multiplication facts continues to be our main focus. PLEASE help your child practice every night. Learning the facts FOR LIFE is our goal. Fish tests are given every day. We will be doing some fun Thanksgiving math activities throughout the week./ We will also begin geometry this week.
SOCIAL STUDIES – The students did very well on the government and Paul Revere tests. We will begin discussing Frederick Douglass this week.

NEWSLETTER MRS.TURNER NOV. 7-11
NO SCHOOL- Students will not have school on Tuesday, November 8th due to Election Day. Please ask your child who can vote. Write how old you have to be to vote in the agenda.
CANNED FOOD DRIVE- Please bring in canned or boxed food for needy families. Many students have already made great contributions!!!! Ford would like to collect 5,000 cans.
TURKEY TALES CELEBRATION- Please join us on Wednesday, November 16th from 12:05-12:50 for the Thanksgiving Feast in the cafeteria followed by a classroom presentation at 1:00. Families will exit the cafeteria and walk through the gardens and around the back of the school to get back to the classroom.
SCIENCE FAIR ENTRIES- All science fair entries are due on Tuesday, November 15th.
FIFTH GRADE MUSICAL- The fifth graders will be presenting their musical on Tuesday, November 15th. Science Fair winners will be announced at 5:45 that night.
TARGET- Target students will meet on Friday this week instead of Thursday.
THANKSGIVING BREAK- Students will not have school from November 21-25.

SPELLING- We will be working on –dge and –ge sounds this week. The assessment will be given on THURSDAY this week.
ENGLISH- Students did a great job on the Plurals Projects. This week we will be working on possessives. / DOL quizzes
READING- We will be reading various versions of the Three Little Pigs and comparing and contrasting the different versions. / We will also be discussing what we are thankful for.
MATH- MULTIPLICATION FACTS are still our main focus!!!!!! Please help your child study on a nightly basis. They need to learn the facts for LIFE…not just for a test. Real Deal tests must be signed and corrected.
SOCIAL STUDIES- Students will have a test over the three branches of government on Wednesday. A folder and study guide should be coming home to use to study. A test over Paul Revere will be given on Thursday.
