NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER NOV. 28-DEC. 2
MEDIA CENTER- We will be going to the media center tomorrow to get new books. Please have your library books at school tomorrow.
THANKSGIVING- I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break. I am sorry that we weren’t able to all get together and share all of the things we are thankful for. Hopefully your child shared the special letter with you at home.
HOLILDAY SHOPPE- All of the students will have the opportunity to go to the Holiday Shoppe tomorrow during the school day. Envelopes were sent home last week. Please feel free to send money with your child tomorrow if he/she would like to do some early holiday shopping.
FISH TESTS- Please continue to help your child study for the fish tests. They need to be learning the facts for life…not just for the test!
GEOMETRY QUILT- Students were given information today on an upcoming geometry project. Examples were shown and discussed in class. The quilts are due on Tuesday, December 20th. This is a great project that needs to be worked on daily. Please don’t wait until the last minute. Do a little each day
SYMMETRICAL DRAWINGS- Please look for large pictures of faces in magazines. They must be facing forward. We need these pictures by Friday for an art project.
JINGLE JAMBOREE- Students are invited to come to the Jingle Jamboree on Saturday from 9:00-12:00.
ACCELERATED READER- All students need to earn at least 10 AR points by December 22nd. Students also need to have at least 80% accuracy.
HOLIDAY PARTY- Mrs. Kastensmidt and I will be discussing our holiday party and what all will be needed. Please look for upcoming e-mails. Please plan to join us on Wednesday, December 21st at 12:30 for our party.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING-We will be discussing contractions this week and next week. An assessment will be given on Friday.
ENGLISH-Homophones will be our main focus this week: there, their, they’re, it’s, its, you’re, your, to, too, and two. Read Dear Deer/ Assessments will be given daily on the various words./ DOL quizzes/Review possessive nouns
READING- Compare and contrast Lon Po Po and other versions of Little Red Riding Hood. A comprehension quiz will be given over Lon Po Po on Friday./ Read and discuss Time For Kids
MATH- Continue discussing geometry terms. Get started on Geometry Quilts. Students may bring their math journals home each night to help with the Geometry Quilt. Just make sure to bring them back each day./ Work on sevens, eights, and nines multiplication facts this week.
SOCIAL STUDIES- Frederick Douglass will be our focus this week. We will also discuss the Appalachian and Rocky Mountain ranges. Which mountain range is the “young” one? Write the answer in your agenda.
