CHECKPOINT TESTS- The students did a great job on the checkpoint tests last week. We took a Language Arts Benchmark Test this morning.
HOLIDAY PARTY- Please plan to join us for our holiday party on Wednesday, December 21 from 12:30-1:30. Many thanks to Mrs. Kastensmidt for getting everything together for us.
WINTER BREAK- We will be out of school from December 23rd- January 9th. Enjoy time with your friends and families.
FISH TESTS- We will be taking fish tests every day this week. We will continue with the fish tests when we return after the holidays. We will be on a two day rotation after the holidays…In Order then Real Deal.
MATH BUSTER TESTS- We will be taking the 7 minute timed tests on Wednesday and Thursday. Study and try to pass before the holidays! Write in the agenda what Math Buster Tests you still need to pass.
ACCELERATED READER- All students need 10 AR points by this Thursday. Please encourage your child to meet this very important goal.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- We are working on adding –ing to words that follow the VCe pattern and words that follow the VVC pattern. Our spelling homework is different this week. Students will get to choose three assignments THEY would like to do. I gave them a sheet called “Ho! Ho! Ho! Three in a Row!” They should pick one assignment each night to complete and bring to school the next day. An assessment will be given on Thursday.
ENGLISH- We will be designing the covers for our Cinderella books. We will also be writing our “About the Author” portion of the book. I will be sending home a stack of Cinderella papers to be typed by the parents who volunteered. Please return the completed typed papers after the winter break.
Reading- We will be reading The Best Christmas Pageant Ever each day this week. We will be watching the video on Thursday./ Each child we be doing a fluency test with me this week./ All AR tests must be taken by 2:00 on Thursday.
MATH- We will be taking Fish Tests each day this week/ A Math Buster Test will be given on Wednesday and Thursday/ A geometry test will be given on Tuesday/ Geometry quilts are due tomorrow./ Second nine weeks assessments will be given this week on Monday and Wednesday
SOCIAL STUDIES- Review where the Rocky Mountains and Appalachian Mountains are located in the United States.

ACCELERATED READER- All students need at least 10 AR points with 80% accuracy by Thursday, December 22nd. Please encourage your child to meet this very important goal!
SRI- All of the students took the reading SRI test today in the computer lab. Information will be coming home this week with the results.
IOWA TEST SCORES- Students brought home their Iowa Test Scores on Thursday. Let me know if you have any questions
FISH TESTS- We are still taking fish tests every day. Please help your child study on a nightly basis. Remember to “learn them for life…not just for the test”.

We will have a different specials schedule for those three days. Students will complete the tests on paper, and then we will use IRESPOND to send our answers to the county.
HOLIDAY PARTY- We would love for everyone to join us for our holiday party on Wednesday, December 21 from 12:30-1:30. Contact Mrs. Kastensmidt if you would like to help with a station or if you would like to help with the supplies/refreshments.

ENGLISH- We will continue to review the topics from the first two nine weeks: types of sentences, subjects and predicates, capitalization, punctuation, quotation marks, nouns, contractions, plurals, possessive nouns, etc./ We will be reviewing different types of writing: to inform, persuade, and entertain
READING- We will begin reading The Best Christmas Pageant Ever this week./ We will also review story elements: characters, setting, plot, problem, and solution/ Review different genres and their characteristics.
MATH-Fish Tests/ Division: arrays, repeated subtraction, and fact families/ Geometry- area and perimeter/ Work on Geometry Quilts- They are due on Tuesday, December 20th. Write in your agenda the number of squares you have completed so far.
SCIENCE- We are reviewing rocks and minerals, soils, weathering and erosion.

BOOKS- I will be reading my favorite holiday book, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, by Barbara Robinson. It is about a family who hears the Christmas Story for the first time. We will also be reading a story called “My Name is Maria Isabel”. It is about a little girl who is in a Winter Pageant at school. Please let me know if you have a problem with your child hearing/reading either of these stories.
ACCELERATED READER-All students need at least 10 AR points by Thursday, December 22. Students also need to have 80% or higher comprehension. Please encourage your child to meet this important goal. Hats off to Valerie Barnhart who has earned over 70 AR points so far this nine weeks! Wow!
FISH TESTS- The students are doing a GREAT job learning their multiplication facts. Please help your child review on a nightly basis. Remember…learn your facts for life…not just for a test.

GEOMETRY QUILT- Students received information last week about their geometry quilts. They should be working on them a little bit every night. They are due on Tuesday, December 20th. Draw a hexagon in the agenda if you read this.
CINDERELLA STORIES- I will be contacting the parents who said they would help us type the Cinderella stories after we have had a chance to edit them this week.

SCIENCE- We will be reviewing rocks and minerals, soils, and fossils for the next two weeks.
