WELCOME BACK! I hope you were able to enjoy time with friends and family. I hope 2012 will be a great year for all of you.
ACCELERATED READER- I am happy to say that everyone met their AR goal this past nine weeks. Our goal for the third nine weeks is 10 points again. Please remember that this is a MINIMUM goal. Many students should be getting well above 10 points each nine weeks. Congratulations to Valerie Barnhart for earning over 115 AR points for the second nine weeks!
READING LOGS- New reading logs will be coming home today.
FISH TESTS- We will continue to take Fish Tests every day. The first day will be In Order and the second day will be Real Deal. Corrections will be DOUBLE the number missed on a Real Deal Day. That number will increase each time the same test isn’t passed.
BIOGRAPHY BOOKS- Students will be checking out a biography book from the library tomorrow. Please make sure to bring all library books to school on Tuesday.
MATH BUSTERS- We will start taking Math Buster Tests again every Wednesday. Congratulations to our newest Math Busters: Dani Appelgate, William Joyner, Saylor Runyon, and Caroline Kastensmidt!
REPORT CARDS- Report cards will be sent home on Friday.
NO SCHOOL- We will not have school next Monday, January 16th due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.
CINDERELLA STORIES- Many thanks to all of the parents who volunteered to type our Cinderella stories: Mrs. Norton, Mr. Gray, Mrs. Kastensmidt, and Mrs. Lynch
GEOMETRY- The students did a great job on the Geometry Quilts. Congratulations to Emily Nettles, Mitchell Norton, and Rylee Nepple for earning the most votes from their classmates for having outstanding quilts! Continue to review and practice the geometry terms throughout the semester.

SPELLING-Sort #17 is base words + ing/ An assessment will be given on Friday./ Midyear spelling inventory
ENGLISH/WRITING- Preassessment for third quarter writing/ Work on Cinderella illustrations/DOL quiz
READING- Read and complete Time For Kids on Exploring Mars/ A comprehension activity will accompany the magazine/ Check out a biography book and start reading this week and next week/ Review cause and effect
MATH-Review multiplication and division/ Third quarter pretest/Discuss and practice perimeter and area/ List a time in your agenda when you would need to know area or perimeter in your every day life./ In Order and Real Deal fish tests/ 7 minute timed test on Wednesday/ Read The Greedy Triangle.
SOCIAL STUDIES- Discuss Susan B. Anthony/ Discuss Martin Luther King, Jr. and Ruby Bridges/ Read Georgia News Weekly about women’s rights
SCIENCE- We had one of our in school field trips today- Habitats of Georgia/ Plants and animals found in various Georgia regions.
