NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER FEB. 13-17
VALENTINE’S DAY- Students are able to bring valentines tomorrow to share with their classmates and their Book Buddies. We made large envelopes to place the valentines in. We will also have a special snack tomorrow.
FRACTION TOWN- All of the students turned in the Fraction Town project on Friday. I hope the students enjoyed the challenge.
MEASUREMENT BOOKLET- We are moving into measurement this week. The students will be given a Measurement Booklet today or tomorrow that needs to be completed at home by next Tuesday, February 21st.
NO SCHOOL- We do not have school on Monday, February 20th.
GEORGIA ANIMAL PROJECT- Each student picked a Georgia animal to research. We will be working on the paper AT SCHOOL! Students will gather information about their animals from the sites they learned about from Mrs. Harp and from the books they checked out from the school library. Students need to print out a COLOR picture of their animal at home. Please bring the picture to school by Wednesday.
SOS- SAVE OUR SCIENCE LAB- Many thanks to all of the families who have made a donation for our Science Lab. We have one week left in the campaign. We aren’t where we need to be yet, so please consider making a donation if you have not already. Mrs. Cauffiel does excellent hands-on activities with all of our students. Our science test scores are higher than many other elementary schools in Cobb County. I believe it is a combination of great teaching, wonderful students, family support and…our SCIENCE LAB!!!!
SCHOOL DANCE- Mark your calendars for Friday, February 24th. Our school dance will last from 6-8 on the 24th.
ACCELERATED READER- All students need to earn at least 10 AR points with 80% accuracy. The nine weeks ends on Wednesday, March 14th.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- We had a big discussion today about spelling. Students will be having different lists of words. Some lists will be modified while others have challenge words. We will all practice the patterns together throughout the week The pattern this week is words that end in y./An assessment will be given on Friday.
ENGLISH- Verbs will be our focus this week
WRITING- We will be gathering information on our Georgia animals this week. We will learn how to organize our notes into an informational paper. All of the work will be completed at school./ We will also be starting cursive handwriting today!!!! Ask your child how to form a cursive a ,c, d, g, and q. Write a cursive letter in the agenda.
MATH- Measurement will be our focus this week./ We will also be reviewing area, perimeter, fractions, and decimals. As always, we will be having fish tests and a timed test on Wednesday.
SCIENCE- Georgia animal research
SOCIAL STUDIES-Mary Bethune is still our focus this week./ We will have an open book test over Mary Bethune on Friday.
