NEWSLETTER MRS.TURNER FEB. 27-MARCH2
PIE DAY- Students are bringing home a letter about Pie Day this Friday. Please mark whether you are able to send in your item. Students are also bringing home a Pie Day Challenge sheet that is due on Thursday.
ACCELERATED READER- We only have two weeks and three days left in the nine week period. Please make sure that you are on track to meet your AR goal this nine weeks. Many students have already met their goals and have continued earning lots more than 10 points! I love to see students challenge themselves and go above and beyond
CRCT ONLINE PRACTICE TESTS- At fall conferences, I gave each parent a brightly colored sheet that had your child’s CRCT practice code and directions for using the online practice site. Please go on the CRCT practiced site and do some of the tests so that you will be familiar with the format and the types of questions that will be asked on the CRCT in April.
SPRING BOOK FAIR-We will have a Book Fair March 19-23.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING-This week we will be adding –ing, -es, or –ed to the end of words. The words this week are very tricky. Make sure to start studying early in the week. / An assessment will be given on Friday
ENGLISH- Adverbs will be our topic this week. Remember that adverbs tell more about the verb…when, where, or how. Many adverbs that tell “how” end with “ly”. Write an adverb in the agenda that tells how you run.
READING- We will be discussing test taking tips for the CRCT and trying various papers to help us prepare…comprehension and context clues./ Read AR books and take tests. / Time For Kids
MATH- Standard and metric measurement will be our focus. Measurement is difficult for many students. Please help your child measure things at home to the nearest inch, ½ inch, and ¼ inch./ We also have to measure to the nearest mm and cm. A 7 minute timed test will be given on Wednesday. We want everyone to be a Math Buster by the end of the year. Study hard!
SOCIAL STUDIES- We will be studying the different types of productive resources this week: human resources, natural resources, capital resources, and entrepreneurs./ We will also talk about Franklin Roosevelt.
SCIENCE- Students will be reading books on magnets and heat and energy.
