NEWSLETTER MRS. TURNER MARCH 5-9
SPRING FLING BASKET- Our class is collecting items for the Spring Fling basket. Our basket has a MOVIE theme…popcorn, cute popcorn bowls, movie candy, DVD’s, movie theatre gift cards, etc. Please send in whatever you are able to contribute. This is a big fundraiser for our PTSA.
SAVE OUR SCIENCE- Even though the official campaign is over, donations are still being accepted to help save our science lab.
SALT DOUGH MAPS- We will be doing an activity the week of March 12th that involves making a special salt dough mixture. The recipe calls for LOTS of salt and flour. Students will be responsible for bringing their own salt dough mixture to school on Tuesday, March 13th. I will send home the recipe and specific directions later this week. This activity will help us learn the various rivers and landforms we are required to know for the CRCT. I will need 4 parent helpers on Tuesday, March 13th at 12:00 to help us FORM our maps. I will need 4 helpers on Tuesday, March 20th at 12:00 to help us PAINT our maps. If you are available either of these days, please let me know
BOOK FAIR- Please come and join us from March 19-23 in the Ford Media Center.
SPRING FLING- March 24th-4:00-8:00. Preorder forms are coming home today.
SPRING BREAK- April 2-6
CRITERION REFERENCED COMPETENCY TEST (CRCT)- The CRCT will be given Wednesday, April 18-Tuesday, April 24th. Please don’t plan any appointments during those days.
SUBJECT MATTER
SPELLING- Everyone will have the same words this week. They are all compound words. An assessment will be given on Friday.
READING- Nonfiction text features will be our focus this week- An assessment will be given on Friday./ We will also discuss cause and effect/ Buckle Down books will be used to discuss various genres, data, and tables./ 10 AR points need to be earned by Wednesday, March 14th. Students need at least 80% comprehension.
WRITING- We will be learning cursive p, r, s, and o. I know it is exciting to write in cursive, but please don’t start writing in cursive until we have learned all of the letters. It is hard to break a habit once it is formed.
MATH-This will be a “catch up” week for us. We will be doing some fractions, decimals, geometry, and measurement./ 7 minute timed test will be given on Wednesday./ Review for Benchmark test.
SOCIAL STUDIES- A test over the 4 kinds of productive resources will be given tomorrow. The other portion of the test will be over Franklin D. Roosevelt. That will also be given tomorrow. Students have a social studies folder with a study guide and other useful information to study. We practiced and reviewed in class today. Please write Roosevelt’s famous quote in the agenda.
SCIENCE- We will be reviewing animal adaptations and habitats by using our science workbooks.
